Are you stupid? Am I stupid? Because the latest news from the Internal Revenue Service to the Congressional committee investigating the IRS’ targeting of Tea Party nonprofits defies ALL reason. The IRS claims they “lost” all of the pertinent emails from Lois Lerner from the years 2009-2011 (the exact years that are being investigated). Hmmm! Isn’t that convenient?
They must think the American public are blinking idiots. Even those of us who are not technologically savvy are aware that nearly every business has backups and backups of backups. Are we really to believe that the IRS doesn’t have backups of these emails? And not only did Lois Lerner’s computer crashed, but all of the employees in question had the same misfortune of having computer crashes where any communication with the White House staff were lost. Again, how convenient. And if you believe that I have some excellent swamp land for sale.
If the Justice Department does not agree to a special prosecutor in this case, then we need to start getting screaming mad and put pressure on the administration and Congress to get a special prosecutor assigned to this debacle. I’ll keep you posted!
Here is an excellent op-ed piece from the Chicago Tribune by Jonah Goldberg on the lack of outrage in the mainstream media. Can you imagine if the Bush Administration had tried this?
